GOOD LUCK, SUNNY!I had a farewell party because one of my house mates will leave Brisbane tomorow. Actually, I just met her 3 days ago, but she is already one of my best friends. I talked with her every evening and have got to know her a lot.
We cooked and had dinner together. I have no doubt I will miss her.
I heard she would go back to Korea after she travels to Melbourne. I hope she will have a nice trip!
NEW SCHOOLI started to go to school for TOEIC from today. In fact,I need a high TOEIC score to get a good job in Japan.I haven't been to school for a long time,so I was slow to learn. I'd like to adapt to life in a new school early on.
GEISHA
I saw a movie which title is “Geisha” at the South Bank Cinema. The main actress is Chan Twii who is Chinese, and also many famous Japanese actors and actresses appear in this movie like Ken Watanabe,Yuuki Kudo, Koji Yakusyo, Kaori Momoi and so on. The director isn’t Japanese, so it was exciting because I could watch Japan from the viewpoint of foreigners. I didn’t feel out of place with them. Some Aussie girls who were next to me were laughing sometimes in the scenes I didn’t feel were funny. I thought it was due to different cultures. It was interesting.
REUNIONI met one of my ex-classmates,Jackie, who is a Korean guy. Almost all of my friends in Brisbane have gone to their own countries.. I saw him after an interval of 6months. He hadn’t changed except for his hair style. I talked with him about my travels and our friends. I had an enjoyable time.
BRISBANEI departed for Brisbane at 7:30. I had a trouble. The shuttle bus for Adelaide airport didn’t pick me up because the Hostel’s staff forgot to stop it. To make matters worse, the staff didn’t stay in reception at that time because it was still early. So at first, I couldn’t understand what was going to happen. I took a taxi to the airport after all. I arrived there 20 minutes before the departure of the flight.. It wasn’t my day. I was a little tired.
HANDROFIt was a very hot day,I think it was around 40 degrees. I couldn’t go out for a long time. I went to Handrof which is located in the Adelaide Hills and is similar to a German town. I ate German sweets with a cup of coffee. It was nice.Tomorrow, I’m going to go back to Brisbane. The first stage of my journey in Australia will finish. The time flies by quickly..
HENRY BEACHThe time was 10:00 when I woke up. Actually, I’m good at waking up early, so it was very unusual. I must have been tired because of my long trip.
In the evening, I went to Henry Beach to watch the sunset. The sky was dyed red by the evening sunlight. It was very beautiful.
When I was waiting for a bus, I met with James, who is an Aussie guy and also loves to travel. I had dinner with him in Chinatown. He said he would go to Japan this year because he would be teaching English. I exchanged email addresses with him. It would be interesting if I could meet with him in Japan.
ADELAIDEI arrived in Adelaide at 7:20. It was a very long way and I chose “the Adelaide Traveller’s Inn” of the Backpacker Hostel which came to the station to pick up the train’s passengers, because it had a free breakfast of rice and cheese cakes.
After taking a shower, I walked to the city. I think it's similar to Perth, except with less Asian people. In this town, I can also take it easy. I think it’s good to stay here a long time. I like it here. In Adelaide, I will only stay for 3 days. I regret it. I need 2 or 3 more days.
ENCOUNTERI was amost sleeping on the train.,even though I did a lot yesterday too. The view from the windows has never changed,so I can feel the spread of Australia.
I met with a Japanese guy. He has been travelling for many years. He has been to many countries, especially Asia. He said he wasn’t good at communicating with one person for a long time because he was always travelling, so he usually stayed at the same place for just a few days. I heard ,in certain senses, he had come here to practice staying in the same place for a long time and communicating with the same people for a long time. He talked about his journeys. He has known many things I have never experienced and he said he also wanted to know about nomal life inJapan. They aim at the moon, they were interesting, That’s the way I love to travel!
THE INDEAN PACIFICI departed for Adelaide from Perth. I took the Indian Pacific which is the long distance train and links Perth to Sydney or Melbourne. On the way to Adelaide from Perth, it passes through the Nullarbour Plain with distances ranging from about 480 kiro metres. I wanted to have the experience of riding this train to feel the spread of Australia. The inside of this train is wider than I had thought and it has shower rooms, toilets, a lounge, a dining room and so on. It was running very slowly, stopping lots of times to wait for other trains. I couldn’t get the connection for my mobile phone as soon as the train departed, but instead of it, I could look at a lot of scenery from the windows. It took 3 days from Perth to Adelaide. I’d like to enjoy this journey.
BACK TO PERTHI arrived in Perth at 20:00. It took about 14 hours, a very long way. On the bus, I was continuing to sleep, even though I sometimes watched a DVD. In a week from today, I’ll continue to move to other cities. I wanna enjoy it fully.
THE FINAL DAYFinally, my work on a banana farm was finished. It was very hard work but I felt 2 weeks passed by too quickly. That work was boring and tiring but I could develop a strong connection with my co-workers. It was very nice.
After our work, we could enjoy a lot of drinking and talking. I wish I could have stayed in Carnarvon not less than 2 weeks. Actually, sometimes I hoped to end my work early, but now I’m missing it. The feeling is a little bit strange.
INDIAN CURRYI had Indian Curry for dinner. My friend cooked it for me. In Australia, we can buy a lot of sauces in the supermarkets, for example meat sauce, curry sauce, and so on. It is very useful when we’re busy and the tastes are also nice. He uses Indian curry sauce with chicken. It suits my taste. I’d like to try other ones next.
SUNSETToday, I went to the beach to watch the sunset with a friend. While we were waiting for the sunset, I heard the story of his life, travel and so on. It was interesting, especially the travel part! The sunset was also nice.
After that, we went to a cafe restaurant which was open yesterday and which was in an old office building with a lot of antiques. We ate a pizza. It was a nice and artistic restaurant. I liked it there.
GRUMBLING.. (IT'S OK FOR A CHANCE,ISN'T IT??)In my job, it’s hard for me to lift bananas when I clean them. When I had a car accident before, I hit my back hard. Since then, I have been weak to carry heavy things. My body is nearly broken. Also this picture is of my T-shirts which I usually wear when I’m working here. You can guess my job is very hard, can’t you?
FLOOD OF THE RIVERThe river near our factory was flooded by the heavy rain of the North West in Australia. Actually, the river has usually dried up by this time. Just from the heavy rain, it flows. I heard local people say this occurrence hardly ever happens. I was surprised because some people were coming to the river to swim even though the water was dirty. Anyway, I was lucky to see it.
THE WEEKEND
I had a day off, so I woke up late. I read a book whose title is “The Alchemist”. Actually, I have been reading this book since October, but I'm only half finished. I like reading books so much that I sometimes forget the time.
After that, I strolled around the beach which has a jetty near my hostel. It was very nice because the sunset lit it up. I like Carnarvon. I can relax and take it easy.
SATURDAY,BUT..In our factory, we usually work from Monday to Friday, however when bananas remain there, we have to work on Saturday and Sunday too. That way, I had to work even though today was Saturday.
After dinner, we went to a pub near the Backpacker Hostel. I could relax with my co-workers. We needed a change of pace. I had a lot of fun.
THE AUSTRALIAN OPEN TENNIS TOURNAMENTThe Australian open tennis tournament is held in Melbourne from today. Actually, I wanted to go to Melbourne to watch these games, but I couldn’t do it because I have to go to school in Brisbane at the end of January. The schedule of the school clashed with the games. I’m going to watch them on TV. It's going to be fun.
TABLE TENNISAfter work, I played table tennis with my friends who came from HongKong. We enjoyed it for an hour and a half. We didn’t care about tomorrow’s work. I like sports because they have international appeal. Today we could also enjoy it a lot.
I LIKE BANANASToday’s job was picking out damaged bananas after washing and it was hectic. Because the conveyer belts of bananas were always working,we had to do our jobs quickly. Otherwise the bananas might have been crushed in those rollers. However, it was easier than yesterday’s job. Fournately, our pay was increased by $1 per hour because we weren’t only packing but also doing everything except cutting. So I was cheered up a little by the news.
I LOVE BANANASToday’s job was different from yesterday’s. I washed bananas in a pool. It was harder than yesterday’s job. My T-shirt got wet and got many stains, and my waist got sore. I know it’s hard to get money but I’m afraid of getting hurt if I keep working for 2 weeks.
I LOVE CARNARVONI worked in a Banana factory. My job was packing bananas in plastic bags after removing damaged bananas. It was quite an easy job, but during the job,I had to keep standing, it was very hard. I was so tired after that. However, the people were very nice. It’s important, I think. Anyway, tomorrow it begns at 7:00. I have to wake up early.
CARNARVONI got on the bus to go to Carnarvon at 8:45. It took about 13 hours to get there. It was a very long way. I took the Greyhound bus which is popular as a long-distance bus. It was comfortable because the seats had enough space and it wasn't so crowded. I slept a lot. At 22:20, I arrived in Carnarvon. It is a town and I could connect my mobile phone. After that, I checked in the Backpacker Hostel. To my surprise, my room was single. I felt lonely, but maybe I can make friends tomorrow… What will happen tomorrow? It’s interesting.
MY NEW JOBI decided to go to Carnarvon to do a packings job of bananas tomorrow. It’s better than nothing to do before I go to school. I could have new experiences and get some new friends. I booked a bus ticket for Carnarvon. Just I’ll try what’s going to happen.
30CENTS ICECREAMDo you know Hungry Jack which is the name of a hamburger shop chain and in Japan it was known as Burger King(but nowadays their shops have already left Japan ).. We can buy a soft ice cream for only 30 cents in any Hungry Jack in Australia. It is a very cheap price and it's taste is very nice. Recently, midsummer is continuing in Perth so I have bought it almost everyday because soft ice-cream leads me there… “30 cents ice cream”is my best friend!
JOB HUNTING?!
Nowadays I’m looking for a job because I have time before school begins. I could have a special experience. I went to some job shops to register my name. Actually, they were so crowded that I was worried if I would be able to get a job. In the evening, I received a call from a job shop. They said I could get a banana packing job but it was so far from Perth and not such good pay. I will need to ask friends and consider them tomorrow…
PRIDE & PREJUDICEI woke up late because I have no plans today. I went to the cinema to see "Pride & Prejudice" in the afternoon. The main actress is Keira Knightley and the actor is Talulah Riley. This movie is a love romance story. At first, their relationship was nasty because they had many differences. However gradually they hit it off and finally fell in love with each other. Actually, it was difficult to undertand their speech because this story was set in the old days and they were using noble language. But in the last scene, I had a warm feeling. I give it three out of five stars.
EXMOUTH! #9Finally, I came back to Perth. The trip to Exmouth was very nice especially because the schedule of this trip included "a New Year's Day". So I could enjoy both many beautiful beaches and "a New Year's Day in OZ". I could make friends and have a lot of memories and experiences. I will never forget this journey. I appreciate it for giving a lot of fun to Terry and the friends who organized it.
At night, we met at the pub again and went to the club to dance salsa. Because Mario and Fabiene have learned salsa and hit it off with each other, we followed them. Even though I was just watching them, it was interesting. It would be the last chance to see these members. I will miss them.. Thank you for an enjoyable time!
EXMOUTH! #8We had the meeting at 6:30 and departed for Perth. At the beginning of this tour, I thought that 9 days must be long but it wasn't enough. The time flew by quickly.. At night we drank together. We talked about our own countries, jobs and so on and we exchanged e-mail addresses. Sometimes we can contact each other even though we live in different countries. How wonderful! I still can't believe that we're going to arrive in Perth tomorrow.
EXMOUTH! #7We had the meeting at 14:30 and went to Bondeli beach. Today was the last day we stayed in Exmouth. It was a fine day, but the waves were a little bit strong, so we enjoyed just swimming without diving. We could take it easy a lot. At night, we shared chicken and potatoes for dinner. After that, we talked with friends. I got two Italian sentences. First: "E' stato bello conoscerti." (Nice to meet you.) Second: "Ti amo." (I love you.) I'm going to try them on Mario who is sitting next to me on the bus. What a great New Year's Day it was!
